Composing An Essay

Composing An Essay It could run into several paragraphs rather than just one or two. Even when you are told how long your paper is meant to be, minor fluctuations are tolerated by almost every professor. What about the format, citations, structure, and language of your 5-paragraph paper? Here, you should consider each of those elements in the context of the type, purpose, and subject matter of the essay assigned. To avoid getting tangled up in one aspect of the discussion, you’ll have to decide how long it should be. If it’s the most important aspect informing your conclusion, you can spend a little more time on that particular point. Discipline yourself to commit a few hours a day to completing your paper. As we said, writing is hard, and even professional writers like myself have trouble doing it. In short, the opening paragraph is your chance to make a great first impression. My teachers always taught by eight paragraph essays, but five-paragraph essays normally lie precedent to the more advanced or larger essays. Paragraphs structure information into sub-topics, and they make your work easier to read and understand thanks to the structure they provide. Then, you are to apply different means of reasonable and persuasive communication. Or, if there is an argument in focus, you have to look for a reliable piece of evidence for supporting your central message. It is important to delineate the entirety of your argument at the very beginning of the paragraph. You want your message to be extremely accessible, so make it snappy! Only by examining how you reflect on your qualities can college admissions officers gain an understanding of how well you think critically and how well you can present an argument. Try to limit the amount of sentences dedicated to supporting evidence. If possible, have one sentence rather than two citing a story, anecdote, or example. This may seem difficult, but it is important to provide only the details that are necessary for understanding the main idea of your essay. Do not wait until the end of the paragraphâ€"and definitely not until the end of the essayâ€"to present your argument. Most often, it is the last sentence of the introduction. If you cannot find a way to fit supporting evidence in just one or two sentences, use a different example altogether. There are certain topics that require a lot of room for explanation, so be careful not to choose a topic for your essay that will require too much evidence to support. The strongest way to end a short essay is to include a brief summary of your main argument and a statement that includes the implications of your thesis on your future. This will depict you as a goal-oriented and forward-thinking person without veering you too far from the main idea of your essay. Whether your essay is 200 words or 5,000 words long, introspection will always be the most important aspect of your college application essay.

A belly full of porridge would send me back to bed but I'm a hefty bloke and missing a meal wont kill me. The number of pages you write depends on several factors. These elements include the average length of your words and whether your page is single- or double-spaced. But there are other aspects of your writing that you should consider when writing 1,000 words, such as font style, font size, and margins. If you're asked to submit a paper with single spacing, you will be writing two-and-a-half pages. If you're using 1.5 spacing, it would be around three pages. So theoretically, you can have a paragraph consisting of one word plus punctuation marks. 1,000 words in direct speech would therefore mean you’d write way more than the five or ten paragraphs our initial guideline suggested. I am a medical student, and I have to write an essay about cancer. Check writers’ ratings, experience and awards to select the most proficient expert for yourself. Composing An Essay

Composing An Essay With the adoption of computers in the classroom, teachers switched from pages to work count because it was too easy for the computers to manipulate the font size and page size. By assigning a word count, teachers get a more accurate length of essay than they would if they assigned homework by pages. Can someone explain to me why so many people are obsessed with word count and page count? If you’re a writer, shouldn’t writing well be the most important thing? Why do writers seem to obsess over word count and page count? If there are not enough sentences or enough information to prove your thesis, then the paragraph is incomplete. Usually three supporting sentences, in addition to a topic sentence and concluding sentence, are needed for a paragraph to be complete. The concluding sentence or last sentence of the paragraph should summarize your main idea by reinforcing your topic sentence. Unity in a paragraph begins with the topic sentence. It would be different if someone else told you how to write a particular sentence, but when you apply writing hints on your own then you should be commended. Be sure you can explain what you are doing and why and your teacher will be impressed. Generally, if you are trying to write just the minimum, you would expect to write five sentences for each paragraph. So 25 sentences in a 5 paragraph essay would be the least you should do. Writing A Descriptive Essay

Writing A Descriptive Essay Unfortunately, we are not hiring writers now due to low season. Narrative can be combined with other structures for an approach that is less risky but still interesting. Beginning an essay with a brief story is the most common and effective of such methods. Another twist on the narrative essay is one that describes a single place, person, or action in great detail. The next step is to outline what you are going to write about. This means you want to essentially draw the skeleton of your paper. Writing an outline can help to ensure your paper is logical, well organized and flows properly. Keep your research organized so it will be easy for you to refer back to. This will also make it easier to cite your sources when writing your final essay. It appeals to the senses of the audience without necessarily drawing on the action of a story. Single images are easier to remember than a list of points, qualities, traits, or qualifications, no matter how impressive any one or all of them may be. Still, this is a risky approach and is best employed when you have to provide multiple essays for one school so that you have a chance to structure your other essays more traditionally. For some questions, this structure is a natural choice, as in the personal growth and development question, which asks you to compare yourself now to the way you once were. Immediately following the topic sentence is the first supporting sentence and two detail/example sentences. Each support sentence and its two detail/example sentences are shown in different colors so you can see where one ends and the next begins. Finally, the closing sentence neatly ties back to the topic sentence by rephrasing it. Remember that all paragraphs should contain a topic sentence. It may be even more important in the expository paragraph because this is where the main idea of the paragraph is expressed. If you've been assigned an argumentative essay, check out these Top 10 Argumentative Essay Topics. Notice the use of transitional words to help the reader follow the ideas. Also, notice the use of third person point of view in this paragraph. For our purposes in this class, you will always use third person point of view when writing expository paragraphs, unless otherwise directed. This means there should be no “I” or “you” words anywhere in the paragraph. The topic sentence in the example lets the reader know that the paragraph will talk about the expenses of going to college. This topic sentence lets the reader know what the rest of the paragraph will discuss. In an expository paragraph, you give information. You can structure a cause-and-effect essay point for point, by comparing one aspect of the object or situation at a time. or secondary sources) to back up the points you want to present. In most cases, an essay like this will also require you to address main points which may oppose your stand on an issue or topic. Narrative essays are often the closest thing to pieces of journalism. If you master the narrative essay, then you are likely well on your way to being a successful journalist. As you move through the essay, transition words will be paramount. Transition words are the glue that connects every paragraph together and prevents the essay from sounding disjointed. Ensure you have transitions between paragraphs so the reader understands how the paper flows from one idea to the next. If you've been tasked with an argumentative essay, here's the best formula for an Argumentative Essay Outline. Another common area of concern is quotation marks. It's important to cite your sources with accuracy and clarity. Follow these guidelines on how to use quotes in essays and speeches.

How Many Paragraphs In An Essay?

How Many Paragraphs In An Essay? I've long been inspired by an idea I first learned about in The Artist's Way called morning pages. It's about getting it all out of your head, and is not supposed to be edited or censored in any way. Buyessayonline.org reviews from customers on the Internet are mostly negative. The site of the company doesn’t offer a clear description of the services they provide because they require registration to view them as well as the information about prices. Every day you write, you'll get beautiful stats that analyze the feelings, themes, and mindset of your words. For example, learn about how often you get distracted, and how fast you write. I've tried writing my 750 words a day on Livejournal, Wordpress, PBWorks, Tumblr, and all of these other sites designed around putting content online. I fear that I might accidentally forget to mark daily pages as private. You can read honest opinions by real students below each review. You find out if a certain service is a good choice for your type of project. This is writing, and it's online, but it's not blogging, or Twittering, or Facebook status updating. In the past, looking for a spare notebook was probably easier than looking for a computer. I don't know if my hands even work anymore with pen and paper for any task that takes longer than signing a check or credit card receipt. And it's just weird having my private brain dumps out on various sites that are designed to be more social. I don't need to title my entries, or tag them, or enable comments, or any of that other stuff. But as always, it cannot guarantee you 100% error-free work. Firstly, you need to type a title of your essay, so that the bot could find relevant content. As far as I understood, it is some kind of an Artificial Intelligence which generates unique content on the topic you provide. It sounds too good to be true, and I still suspect that there is some a trick there. Though other people’s feedback, you see if the service really delivers the revisions as promised. You can compare prices and policies without conducting detailed analysis of different writing agencies. You can still get the best essay, but you need a 100% reliable company. I am also almost sure that in the end you will be required to pay money. Students are not always willing to share opinions, though. They are mostly interested in reading reviews before hiring a service. If they get what they needed, they won’t bother going from one reviewing site to another to share their positive impressions. When they are disappointed, they will be inspired to warn others against ordering at a certain website. I was pretty confident that at least a plagiarism tool would not detect unoriginal text in the pieces of paragraphs rephrased by the bot. The grammar checker also demonstrated a satisfying result. Ideally, you want reviews that triggered discussions. We already mentioned Awriter.org, which is great for that.

Management of risks to prevent huge losses - Free Essay Example

In every business there is always risk and if the risk is not well managed by the company, it will lead to the huge losses and eventually will make the company bankrupt. Hence, the tool to manage the risk is introduced called derivatives. There are many types of derivatives and the most commonly use are options, futures and forwards. However, there are many cases of company incurred huge losses because of the derivatives. One of the popular cases on derivatives debacles is the bankruptcy of the Barings Bank in 1995. This is one of the popular cases since it is involve the oldest bank in London and the fall is cause by the action of only one employee base at the small office in Singapore. Barings Bank had suffered a loss of 827 million ($1.3 billion) plus the collapse cost which is 100 millions. The person who was responsible for the fall of Barings Bank is Nick Leeson. Barings bank was founded by Francis Barings and his silent partner, John which is his older brother at 1762. Barings bank had financed the 1803 Louisiana Purchase, the Erie Canal and also helped the British government battle against Napoleon in finance aspect. In the battle of British and Napoleon, the bank gave loan and raise money to pay the armies, and buy the equipment for the battle. In 1992, the Barings have decided to send one of their employees to Asian to do the derivatives trading. Since derivatives are something new at that time, not many people know how to deal with it. So, the Baring chose one of their employees named Nick Lesson who had performed well in his job in Jakarta. Nick Lesson was sent to Singapore in 1993 as the general manager of Barings Futures (Singapore) and his job is to run the banks Singapore International Monetary Exchange (SIMEX) activities. Besides, he also had to manage the back-office which actually should be managed by different people. At the beginning of his job as a trader, he had done the arbitraging which is take advantages at the difference of equivalent underlying assets price between two exchanges- buy at the lower price and sell at the higher price. He took positions in Nikkei 225 and Japanese Government Bonds (JGB) as well as options on Nikkei. One year of his work as a general manager in Singapore, he gave the profit of 10 million to the Barings. This had made the trust of the Barings to become stronger than before. However, what Nick Leeson showed to the top management of Barings Bank is the profit only and he hid the loss he had incurred in the secret account. The 88888 account have been made by Leeson in order to cover the loss that have incurred. At first, this account is use to hide the 20, 000 loss made by one of his staff. But, this account later is use for him because in the year 1994 he is not lucky. The largest part of his losses is on the Nikkei 225 that he bought. By December 1994, the 88888 account have made a total loss of 200million but, he reported to the British tax authorities that he gain 102 million. Although, Leeson had stressed because of the loss, he still bets that the Nikkei index would rise and not fall below 19, 000. So, on 16th January, in the Osaka Securities Exchange (OSE) and SIMEX, he had placed a short straddle. However, his expectation that suppose to gift profit had turned to be a nightmare when Kobe, Japan got attack by an earthquake on 17th January 1995. Because of the 7.2 Ritcher scale of earthquake in Kobe, the Nikkei index had fall 7% in a week. Three days after the earthquake, he was not stopped taking positions in the Nikkei index. Unfortunately, the loss that he had incurred was too large and cannot be hidden anymore. The huge amount of losses had made no exit for the Nick Leeson. There is nothing he can do to cover all the losses. He took an action by left his job and went to Malaysia two days before his 28th birthday. He left a note said, Im sorry. The total loss he made was $1.3 billion twice from the amount of capital the Barings had. Approximately 2,000 of Nick Leesons staff have lost their job. On the 26th February 1995, the Barings have been declared as bankrupt. THE AFTERMATH. After the collapse of Barings Bank, their liabilities had increase up to 827 million. The Barings Bank enables to pay all the liabilities which make them collapse on 26th February 1995. In 1995, the ING, one of the Dutch Bank have purchased the Barings Bank for the nominal sum of 1 along with assumption of all Barings liabilities. In 2001, the ING has sold the United States based operations to ABN Amro for $275 million and folded the rest of ING Barings into it European Banking division. Then, Barings Bank was split and sold by ING to MassMutual which give the right to use the name Barings Asset Management (BAM) and acquiring BAM investment management activities. Therefore, Barings Bank has no longer a separate corporate existence, although the Barings name still lived on as the MassMutual subsidiary Barings Asset Management. The ING also sold Barings Bank to Northern Trust will acquire BAMs financial services group. In 1995, Nick Leeson has realized that his operation have incurred losses, so he try to escape with his wife by flying to London from Malaysia. He was arrested in March while on a stop-over in Germany. The reason that he gave where he said had been holiday. Singapore court have sentenced him to six and a half years in prison but nick was released from a Changi prison in Singapore after serving three and a half years of a sentence for fraud. At Changi prison, he was diagnosed a cancer and recover, at the same time was divorced by his wife. After he has release from Changi prison in 1999, he wrote an autobiography which called Rogue Trader. In this autobiography, it covering the events that have been leading up to the collapse. After that, Film maker James Dearden has dramatized the book in the film Rogue Trader. Last but not least, Nick Leeson has released a new book in Jun 2005 entitled back from the brink: coping with stress. It is about continued the story of rogue trader and including in the depth conversation with psychologist Ivan Tyrrell asserting that the prolonged periods of severe stress that affected Leeson mental and physical health that occur in many other people lives. THE LESSON LEARNT. Barings bank collapse can be a worth lesson to everyone that seek the message behind the tragedy. There is much lesson that can be learned in this incident especially by superiors of an organization. In Barings bank, we can see that there is a poor supervision of employees especially on Nick Leeson when his activities of trading not have been monitored directly which they (Barings bank headquarter in London) only hears the end report made by Leeson. Thus it causes the bank to lose all its assets to cover the losses made by Leeson. Therefore, we know that in an organization there should be more strict rule to do trading and the superior should monitor directly all trading that been done by their subordinate. Besides that, the top management of Barings bank has lack of understanding about trading business; this made them to give full trust on Leeson. Thus, the upper line of every organization must have the knowledge and understanding about trading and business they involve with. So they may realize their subordinate (in this case Leeson) is trying to gamble using banks assets as his bet, instead of helping the bank to hedge banks assets value. Other than that, in Barings bank there is also a poor segregation of work. This can be seen where Leeson has been assigned to be incharge in both dealing desks and back office. In the first place, the bank should be more detail with their employees job specification and should diversify the job to avoid fraud in the work place. One person should be incharge in one job or maybe more, but the jobs must have no correlation that may lead to fraud. Last but not least, the lesson is the employee himself must be honest in doing their job. The employee shouldnt be selfish and greedy to get easy wealth, they should be more innovative in their field to receive promotion or start their own business to be rich and successful.

Questions On The Basic Elements Of Music - 859 Words

Review Questions 1. What are the basic elements of music? The basic elements of music include: pitch, rhythm, beat, tempo, dynamics, timbre, melody, harmony and form. It appears other questions ask for the definition of these terms. Therefore, I assume this is the answer for this question. 2. What is pitch? Pitch is the frequency of a sound. Basically, this means it correlates to how high or low the tone sounds. In the West, there are typically 12 different pitches used in music. A octave is the repetition of these 12 pitches. A scale is a group of notes in ascending and descending pitch. These terms are critical because music must have the ability to have repetition with common sounds and also escalate the tone of the sounds. This helps establish a drop in a song or a slow part of a song. 3. What is syncopation? What types of music use syncopation? Syncopation involves placing emphasis on normally un-emphasized beats or using a rest on a normally emphasized beat. The following types of music use syncopation: ska, reggae, rap, gazz and some forms of metal. 4. What are three examples of forms of music? Describe each form? Strategic Modelling and Business Dynamics

Question: Discuss about the Strategic Modelling and Business Dynamics. Answer: Introduction Jetstar Airways is one of the low cost airlines in Australia, which has its headquarters in Melbourne (Jetstar.com 2017). It is one of the wholly owned subsidiaries of Qantas, which is aimed for the low-cost market segment in Australia (Jetstar.com 2017). The Airline uses combined fleet of Airbus A320 family as well as Boeing 787 Dreamliner (Jetstar.com 2017). The main competitor of the Airlines is Virgin Australia, which is a low-cost subsidiary of Tigerair Australia. This report would analyze the eight factors of external environment including PESTEL analysis. The current life cycle stage of the organization would also be defined. An external SWOT analysis would be conducted by focusing mainly on the opportunities and the threats which are faced by the organization. The implications of these external factors on the survival of the organization, growth prospects and the competitive advantage would also be defined. The external environment of a firm is concerned with all the entities which exist outside the boundary of the particular organization (Josefy et al. 2015). They need to be taken into consideration while building the company policies as they have significant impact on the growth as well as survival of the organization. It is true that the organization has little control on the external environment; however, the organization needs to monitor this external scenario regularly (Josefy et al. 2015). PESTEL Analysis The PESTEL analysis is an important framework which analyses the external environment of an organization. It focuses on six important external environment factors that affect the overall functioning of Jetstar Airways. It is important to design organizational strategies based on these external factors. The six external factors are described below- There is deregulation of the aviation industry in Australia and Australia has implemented the open door policy in the country. Since, the airline has operating hub in Singapore, it is affected greatly by the political scenario of Singapore (Bhasin Venkataramany and Ng 2015). Singapore is considered as a prosperous nation which has widespread trading links (Bhasin Venkataramany and Ng 2015). The high stability of the country has led to high economic growth of the nation. However, with the global increase in the terrorism, the tourism sector has been affected as it has witnessed low levels of air travel (Bhasin Venkataramany and Ng 2015). The passengers have an inherent belief that their airplanes would be hijacked mid- air and this has negatively impacted the sector. The changing prices of the oil significantly affect the airline industry. The airlines need to employ different non-monetary methods for ensuring their smooth functioning (Bhasin Venkataramany and Ng 2015). The airlines organizations ensure that they increase the fuel-buying capacity by introducing several techniques such as hedging (Berghfer and Lucey 2014). This would allow the airlines to make purchases of fuel in larger quantities as well as enter into contractual agreements with the different oil suppliers. The Global Financial Crisis also has a major role to play in deciding the organizational metrics (Bhasin Venkataramany and Ng 2015). This factor determines the number of people who use the airlines for flying to different holiday destinations. The purchasing power parity of the people has increased due to increased economic growth (McDonald 2015). There is subsequent growth of the working holiday visa as well as increase in the number of international students (McDonald 2015). The students coming for education purposes from foreign countries need affordable airline services so that they can avail them easily. There have been considerable changes in the job market, which have increased the travelling of the executives from one country to other for work related purposes. Technological factors The technology plays an important role in shaping up of the organizational policies. Internet plays an important role in the airlines industry (Pearson 2016). The technological developments have provided the customers a better platform for doing their travelling transactions. The airlines organizations are able to reach their customers directly who are frequent flyers (Pearson 2016). The technology has also influenced the customers through the process of e-commerce. Jestar Airlines should consider the different environmental aspects, which would result in the formulation of effective strategies (Timmis et al. 2015). It is the duty of the organization to check if it is damaging the natural environment. The emissions of the aircraft have great impact on the external environment and these emissions cause significant damage to the earths atmosphere (Timmis et al. 2015). The noise pollution is also one of the prime environmental concerns. The laws of the country and the international laws affect the functioning of the organization (Fukui and Miyoshi 2017). The carbon tax implementation has a negative impact on the aviation sector as it becomes an operational issue for the airlines to handle the higher fuel costs (Fukui and Miyoshi 2017). The government subsidiaries may have international route deregulation and other regulations regarding airline emissions, which affect the organizational policies. The customers are one of the most important components that exist in the external environment of an organization. The passengers are the end-users of the airline services and they are considered as the most critical aspect (Shaw 2016). There are considerable changes in the needs as well as preferences of the customers, which need to be taken care of by the airline organizations (Shaw 2016). There can be demographic changes in the customer profile such as ethnicity, age, economic class and education level. The competition is one of the most important aspects of an organization, which determines the market position of a company. The competition can be assessed at both the local level and also at the international level (Hubbard Rice and Galvin 2014). Jetstar Airlines needs to consider the related industries in the country and understand the marketing strategy, offshore development and the competitive advantages (Hubbard Rice and Galvin 2014). It is also important to take care of the competition in the global domain and launch competitive services. It is also important to understand the unique selling proposition of the rival companies so that similar services can be incorporated in the company policies of Jetstar. Current Life Cycle Stage The current life cycle model for Jetstar Airways belongs to the saturated stage. The market for short haul travel is considered to be saturated one; however, there are still plenty of growth opportunities for the aviation organization (De Poret O'Connell and Warnock-Smith 2015). It is true that the low-cost carriers do witness full occupancy, especially during peak season, however, there are tight profit margins. There is limited scope in the long-haul flights since the passengers demand comfort on the long journeys (De Poret O'Connell and Warnock-Smith 2015). The airline company is looking for growth in the market conditions, which would imply additional revenue for them. There are common instances of cancelled orders and the grounding of the planes (De Poret O'Connell and Warnock-Smith 2015). The airlines concentrate on the cost cutting aspect in order to increase their profit generation. Analysis of opportunity and threats- Jetstar Airways There are several opportunities as well as threats which is faced by the organization. There are more opportunities to expand their market share in the international market. There is a considerable increase in the short-haul travel option in the Asian tourists and this can be tapped by the company (Joe 2014). In Singapore, there are a growing number of tourist attractions, which is attracting tourists from all over the world. This has increased the chances of airline booking, which should be tapped well by Jetstar Airways (Joe 2014). The travel companies are giving frequent flying rewards and giving the customers an opportunity to earn points with the help of various activities such as hotel staying booking, credit card usage, car rental services, dining offers and others (Joe 2014). There are various leases which are announced by different regulators which have proposed new fleet of aircrafts for the purpose of carrying more number of passengers, service efficiencies, employment opportunities and implement attractive promotional strategies (Whyte and Lohmann 2015). This should be adopted by the Jetstar Airways. There are also several expansions of international air routes, in which the airline should start its business operations. There are many threats that exist in the external environment. There is an intense competition from several low-cost airlines which operates in the market (Homsombat Lei and Fu 2014). There are several changes in the Australian regulations concerning aviation industry which has led to severe losses for Qantas. There has been negative impression of the airline sector due to increased terrorism and this has affected the overall reputation of the sector. This may lead to loss of passengers in the busy routes, which implies a loss in the airlines revenue (Homsombat Lei and Fu 2014). There are an increasing number of business class travelers, which means that there would be loss of revenues for the low-cost carriers. There is a greater threat from the increasing fuel prices. Implication of external issues on organization The opportunities have great impact on the organizations survival, competitive advantage and growth prospects (Morecroft 2015). The organization should make more number of short-haul flights in order to cater to the growing number of customers (Morecroft 2015). This can be done by implementing additional flight routes to busy areas, which would increase the revenues of the company. Jetstar can introduce more number of flights to Singapore as there are several tourist destinations across the country. This would increase the popularity of the airlines. It should also engage in giving promotional offers to the customers (Morecroft 2015). This would not only give competitive edge for the company but it would only make easy for the organization to survive in the highly competitive environment (Wagner III and Hollenbeck 2014). The addition of the value-added services of the company would definitely make the customers avail the services of the company. This would increase the revenue genera tion of the company and this would increase the growth prospects of the company (Morecroft 2015). The increase in the revenues would help the company to expand its business in a more profitable manner. The organization should focus on increasing the number of international air routes and increase the number of aircrafts so that they can cater to the increasing needs of the customers. The threats have significant impact on the organizations survival, competitive advantage and growth prospects. The increased growth of the low-cost carriers may pose severe threat for Jetstar Airways (Christensen 2013). The rivals may attract the customers of the brand and hence Jetstar may slowly start to lose its potential customers, until and unless they give unique services to the customers (Christensen 2013). It is important to offer innovative services to the customers so that they can keep the existing customers as well as attract new potential customers (Christensen 2013). The growing instances of terrorism may make decrease the sales of the airlines, which would pose a threat for the survival of the organization. If the threats that are not managed by implementing strategic planning, then it would hamper the growth and prosperity of the organization (Hunger and Wheelen 2014). It would lead to stagnant conditions, which is not good for the organizational wellbeing. The organi zation may not be able to survive a long time under such external threats. Conclusion The modern-day organizations operate in a wide range of the external factors and they should formulate their policies accordingly. The organizational policies should correspond to the threats faced in the external environment. The selected organization for this report is Jetstar Airways. This report has discussed the eight important factors of external environment namely political, economic, social, technological, environmental, legal, customers and competition. The current life cycle stage of the organization is discussed. The analysis of the potential opportunities and threats have been done along with the implication of the external issues on the selected organization. This report would broaden the understanding of the major domains in the external environment of the chosen organization and how it affects the organization. Tiananmen Square Massacre essays

Tiananmen Square Massacre essays On the nights of June 3-4, 1989, it can be accurately stated that there was a bloody, ugly incident in the streets of Beijing in which many people lost their lives. The facts of this incident, however, are greatly disputed and questioned. Differing reports from students, citizens, journalists, and the government create a muddled, confusing story that is clearly representative of bias. By examining eyewitness reports and video and sound footage, one can try to determine which reports are factual and which reports are products of emotion and partiality. In doing this we can piece together the most likely series of events. In this report I rely heavily on the statements of foreign journalists and intellectuals as well as the students involved who I have determined to be a reliable source. While I consider the statements of students who I have determined to be more biased and also in a very small way the government, I do not accept any of their statements not backed up by other witnesses. During the two weeks of martial law enacted on May 20 there existed a tense stand-off between the Government and the people of Beijing. With the regular citizens or laobaixing aiding the students by blocking troops attempting to advance towards the square, and dissension among the party running high, the government was growing extremely frustrated with the situation. The build of troops around Beijing alarmed and angered most residents. The Chinese people had always been taught that the PLA was an army to protect the people, the thought of using it against their own people infuriated many. The laobaixing also strongly agreed with the students cause. They had felt the effects of the government corruption and inefficient leadership more than any. With the populations ire of the government growing with each day, strong outbursts of emotion were inevitable. One ominous event just days before June 4 clearly showed the tension both sides wer...

Company Analysis-Ethics and Social Responsibility(AMAZON) Essay

Company Analysis-Ethics and Social Responsibility(AMAZON) - Essay Example Amazon.com’s ethical standard which is encapsulated in their vision as a company meant doing their job right that in doing their job right, this would be their greatest contribution to the good of society as they lower their prices, expand selection and other initiatives in the future. They also give to the communities where their employees live and their donations are spread throughout nonprofit organization across the United States. They also engage in volunteer works and give grants to the writing community (Amazon b, 2013). This standard of Amazon’s ethical standard is practiced in a way that was elaborated further by its CEO stating that this approach of â€Å"offering customers the lowest prices on virtually any product they wanted and providing a quality customer experience† is the only strategy that will provide long term value for Amazon.com’s customers and shareholders (G.A., 1999) Amazon.com’s ethical standard to be a customer-centric company also extends to their environmental friendly operations. Most of their orders are shipped in â€Å"corrugated containers which on average contain 43% recovered fiber content. Once used, these containers are 100% recyclable for use in the manufacture of other paper products† (Amazon c, 2013).   Large products such as television sets, and other appliance and household items are shipped using paper as packing materials that are 100% recyclable whose content is already 50% recycled (Amazon c, 2013). One of the concrete examples of Amazon’s ethical standard being aligned with their business strategy as a company is best illustrated by its new product Kindle. In an interview with its CEO Jeff Bezo, he stressed that as a company, they do not want to make money out of their hardwares that would make their price prohibitive. This is also consistent with their ethical standard of offering the most cost effective service to their customer with an

Answering Questions #2 (Anthropology) Assignment

Answering Questions #2 (Anthropology) - Assignment Example Sociocultural Anthropology, in focusing on patterns of socialization and culture across nations, has enabled us to understand different societies with regards to cultural differences in philosophical problems such as truth and justice, as well as practical concerns such as environmental studies and social changes to societies (American Anthropological Association, 2012). Biological Anthropology, in studying how people have adapted to different environments, has contributed to human relations through their study of evolutionary theories and how people have taken their place as a whole throughout the world (American Anthropological Association, 2012). Archaeology, due to its study of the past, has helped societies not only understand their individual histories, but how each culture has come to affect other cultures (American Anthropological Association, 2012). Finally, Linguistic Anthropology has contributed to human relations by assisting in understanding areas such as social identity , large-scale cultural beliefs, and group membership through their focus on languages and the ways in which they have helped and affected different societies and cultures (American Anthropological Association, 2012). 2. Describe the typological and population models. Both the typological model and the population model are methods of classifying the human race as a whole. Both methods have been found to possess several flaws, albeit for different reasons (O’Neil, 2011). The typological model classifies people into groups based on traits that can be observed from a distance, and assumes that people can be classified based on this reason alone, which is an inherent flaw in its logic (O’Neil, 2011). The typological model is also flawed due to the fact that it assumes that all races have the same inherent traits, which is simply untrue, as humans cannot be classified as â€Å"homogenous† by any sense of the word (O’Neil, 2011). Due to these flaws, the populati on model was developed, which was based on the idea that certain groups of people were the product of ancestors who had mated more or less only with each other for the previous time period (O’Neil, 2011). It works in almost a completely opposite manner of the typological model, as instead of classifying traits and then determining who has them, instead mating patterns are discerned first, and then considers the traits that make them unique (O’Neil, 2011). However, this too has an inherent flaw; humans do not stay in one place long enough to form concrete classifications for using this method (O’Neil, 2011). Thus both of these models, while serving their uses for classification purposes, have flaws that make them unusable as one type of classification alone. 3. Describe the impact of Charles Darwin’s theory of evolution on studies of divisions of humans. Charles Darwin had a rather dramatic impact on studies of divisions of humans due to his theory of evol ution, and literally caused everything to change with his views. The former classifications of humans, both from Aristotle and Carolus Linnaeus, had used principles that, while logical, were at their core quite arbitrary and had no grounded basis at all (Blamire, 1998). Darwin made the point that humans evolved from something else, and likewise anything could therefore evolve, and change (Blamire, 1998). It soon became obvious that new divisions were needed for humans, because traits that resided as a part of humans could be both seen and unseen, and classifying them
